Looking for Peace When It’s Teen vs. Parent

What’s a teen to do when his Dad like totally loses his cool and doesn’t listen?

What’s a Mom and Dad to do when their teenager crosses the line and then lies about it?

The Bible teaches about a peace that passes all understanding, but what does that look like when things get ugly between family members? Check out this Christ-centered alternative and pick up a tool for announcing God’s grace in the midst of conflict.

SPEAKERS AND TOPICS FOR 2011

1. Ted Kober

serves as President of Ambassadors of Reconciliation, an international ministry founded to serve Lutherans in peacemaking.  A Certified Christian Conciliator since 1992, he consults with business and church leaders and conciliates a wide variety of cases, including complex church interventions.  Ted teaches personal biblical peacemaking, trains leaders in coaching and mediation, and leads board governance workshops.

From ages 10-92, Christians struggle with sexual temptation from the Internet, cell phone, and other technology.  The result?  Broken marriages;  hurting families; and damaged ministries and businesses.  While not all are tempted, everyone in our society is impacted by its effects.  This two-part workshop prepares you to help a loved one or yourself respond through the power of the Gospel.  Learn the extent of this issue and how to experience healing through biblical peacemaking.

2.  Pastor Rich Docekal
will discuss  "Playing House--A Brief Examination Concerning Co-habitation."  A common practice in our society for decades;  co-habitation has always been frowned upon by the Church.  What are the biblical guideline?  Are there cases when co-habitation is allowable, and in a setting that can be pleasing in the eyes of our Lord?    Pastor Docekal is pastor at All Saints Lutheran Church in Edmonton who also blogs.

3.  Julie Parr
is a dynamic speaker and community educator back by popular request!  She will again speak about the advantages of abstinence before marriage and issues of contemporary culture.

The title of the talk is "That'll leave a Mark!"  because every choice we make leaves a mark--a mark onus and on those around us.  Our sex driven culture says that sex is no big deal and there can be sex without consequence, but fails to realize that in addition to teen pregnancies and rampant
STI's, that casual sex can be emotionally devastating.  Is it realistic to expect anyone to save sex for marriage these days?  Is the power of God stronger than the pull of the media?  Let's find out!

4.  Dr. Simon Sheh
is a Christian Psychologist who will present a talk titled "Porn is not about sex".   He will unmask the unhealthy functions of porn and offer lifetime practical tools to help men pursue godly living in our sexualized world.  You may also view his website.

5.  Rev. Dr. Glenn Schaeffer
will lead a concluding panel discussion involving some of the speakers once more.  Dr. Schaeffer works with the Alberta, British Columbia district of the Lutheran Church, Canada (LCC).
